Friends of the Pecos River, in collaboration with the Texas Produced water Consortium (TxPWC), is hosting a Town Hall Gathering about the beneficial use of treated desalinated produced water on Friday, September 18, 2026 in Iraan at 10:00am.
TxPWC brings together researchers, regulators, agricultural producers, environmental organizations, and community stakeholders to evaluate the potential for beneficial reuse of produced water, which is a byproduct of oil and gas production and currently classified as a waste. Advances in treatment technology can clean the water and may make it suitable for applications such as rangeland restoration, irrigation, and industrial use. TxPWC researchers conduct water quality analysis, toxicity testing, treatment technology evaluation, and economic assessment to understand the feasibility and impacts of treated produced water on soil, plant, and environmental health. Learn about proposals to cleanse and discharge treated desalinated produced water directly into the Pecos River, and/or on the lands that feed the river. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn.
